Kurt Rieke
Kurt Rieke joined Elias Group in February 2008. Previous to that he had been working as both in-house counsel managing litigation and SEC and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and as an investment professional involved with portfolio management of existing, troubled investments, participation on the investment committee for evaluation and decisions on proposed investments with Prospect Capital Management, which manages a Business Development Corporation investment fund. This was preceded by a position assisting with the management of the New York City Department of Environmental Protection water supply system and watershed. In this role he had direct supervisory responsibility for more than 100 staff, directed the permitting and enforcement activities under DEP's Watershed Regulations, capital program planning and projects as well as having a key role in policy development and political relations with elected officials and business owners in communities throughout the watershed and other parts of the NYC government. Mr. Rieke has practiced environmental law independently, with Farer Fersko, P.C. in New Jersey, at National Grid in New York City and Long Island, and throughout the United States with Covanta Energy, from its headquarters in Fairfield, New Jersey. He has experience with air quality, water quality, solid waste and hazardous waste management, brownfields redevelopment, occupational safety and health, intellectual property, litigation and commercial transactions. He received his J.D. from New York Law School, Cum Laude, in 1991. He also has an M.S. in Environmental Engineering and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Cincinnati. He resides in New York City with his wife, who is an environmental consultant, their two daughters and the world's best dog.
